Hey lovelies! I hope your day has been going great! ❤️
Someone nominated me for an award, and that person is the wonderful Virginia @ The Sassy Library Fox! Thank you, Virginia! She is such an incredibly sweet person and her blog posts are so fun to read! (You all should especially read her review of Six of Crows – it is an absolute masterpiece and it’s very long!) And if you aren’t following her already…I don’t know what to say to you. Go follow her right now, please.
As I’m writing this post, Virginia’s fighting through her terrible allergies, so Virginia, if you’re reading this, I hope you feel better sooner rather than later!
Virginia actually nominated me for this back in November, and I’m only now getting around to it. 😅 (I’m very good about staying on top of things, as you can see.) But better late than never, right? So let’s get started!
- Thank the blogger that nominated you.
- Write a post to show your award.
- Give a brief story of how your blog started.
- Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
- Select 15 other bloggers you want to give this award to.
- Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them and provide the link to the post you created.
My Origin Story:
Up until a few years ago, I had no idea that book blogging was even a thing. I had a Goodreads account, but I wasn’t ever active on it. In fact, I went months without using it at times (which I can’t even picture myself doing now, because I have a Goodreads addiction). I never interacted with anyone on the site – I had zero friends and I wasn’t following anyone.
But then I started really reading the reviews other people posted on Goodreads about books instead of just skimming them, and I realized that I genuinely enjoyed reading them. These were the more popular bloggers, as their reviews are usually the first reviews that appear in “Community Reviews” on Goodreads – and the personalities that bled through their reviews, their unique voices were so fun and engaging that I started following them. This busted the dam, so to speak, and I started writing reviews and interacting and engaging with other people on the site. And then I found some of these people’s book blogs. I was fascinated with book blogs from the very start, and I loved just…looking through the posts. Eventually, I started to think about forming my own book blog. I mentioned the idea to my sister, and she was very enthusiastic and vocal in her support of it. So after some brainstorming and creating design ideas together, we created this blog.
Of course, now my sister isn’t blogging with me anymore 😢, but both the blog and I remain. And I love blogging, so I’m planning on sticking with it for a long time.
So, um…I don’t actually feel very qualified to give advice. I mean, I’ve been blogging for some time (nearly two years, with some…very long hiatuses), but I still don’t feel qualified. I haven’t been the best about sticking with the blog and posting regularly. Up until now, I’ve mostly pushed it to the side. But I guess I can talk about some of the things I’ve learned since I started.
I always feel more motivated to post if it’s something I have fun writing. And I love reading and talking about books, but sometimes writing reviews can be daunting. So I don’t do reviews all the time! It’s a book blog after all, not a book review blog (though my website name is Book Reviews by the Bloggisters currently, that doesn’t mean I solely post reviews). So I guess what I’m trying to say is 1) make sure you’re having fun!
Another thing I’ve realized is that posting on a set schedule is extremely helpful. It helps you stay organized and it makes you feel productive, which is halfway there to actually being productive. This isn’t applicable to everyone – I know some people who thrive on spontaneity, and though I like to pretend I’m one of them 😂, I’m not. A schedule really helps me. So when I say 2) set a schedule for posting, take it with a grain of salt.
