Down the TBR Hole #4

I’m back! With another Down the TBR Hole post. I’m going to try to turn this into a weekly thing, so that I can steadily try to decrease my TBR, but we’ll see. Hopefully I remember and it happens.

Well, not tomorrow for me. (I’m being responsible and writing this post on Sunday!) But it comes out in TWO DAYS people.

I’m already planning on clearing my Tuesday evening of all homework so I can stay up late and read everything. And I’m not reading the Grishaverse series. (Sorry, but can’t force myself through that. Nope nope nope.)

Anyway –> Back on track!

Down the TBR Hole was created by Lia @ Lost in a Story to help decrease the size of our TBRs.

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

La Belle Sauvage (The Book of Dust #1) by Philip Pullman

Funny story. So I actually checked this book out a while back…and never read it. Hehe.

But I will read it! Because I’m interested in this series. And also because the cover is gorgeous so the inside better be too.

Final Verdict: Keep

The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials #1) by Philip Pullman

Every other person has screamed at me to read this book. (This…might be a slight exaggeration.) So I will read it.

Also, there’s a polar bear on the cover.

Final Verdict: Keep

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green, David Levithan

The thing is…I don’t actually love all of John Green’s books. I like them…but I never loved them. But I gave them all five stars because that’s what everyone seemed to be doing so I hopped on the wagon, so to speak.

Same with David Levithan. I liked the one book I read of his – I think it was called Every Day but I didn’t actually like it.

So…I think I’m going to not keep this one.

Final Verdict: Lose

The Loose Ends List by Carrie Firestone

I forgot that I wanted to read this! When I added it to my TBR, it was because the premise interested me. And it still does. It sounds…light and fluffy, which is not usually my thing, but I’m in a mood right now where I want light and fluffy. It’s an after affect from reading The Poppy War.

Final Verdict: Keep

The Unlikelies by Carrie Firestone

Why are all of Carrie Firestone’s covers so cute??

I think I just added this book to my TBR because I saw that the same author who wrote The Loose Ends List had written this. But I wasn’t interested in the premise? Or, if I was, I’m not interested anymore.

Final Verdict: Lose

Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

The Queen of Contemporary, as Matson is so often hailed. And I can see why. I liked The Unexpected Everything, though I didn’t like Second Chance Summer...but she’s a good author overall.

Still, I tried to read this book a while back and I just…couldn’t get through it. The beginning started off so slowly.

Final Verdict: Lose

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children #1) by Ransom Riggs

This is apparently a very popular YA series that I have (surprise!) not read yet. But I’m actually planning on reading it soon (which…I decided just now), so I’m going to keep it.

Final Verdict: Keep

The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur

I have actual plans to read this book! It’s for #YARC2019 (the Year of the Asian Challenge) so I will be reading it this year! Yay!

I’m very excited to read this one, actually. I’ve heard Kaur is an amazing poet. Plus, this is a Goodreads Choice 2017 winner!

Final Verdict: Keep

If any of you have read these books, tell me what you think of them! It might affect my decision to keep them on my TBR or not (and you could save me from the time and pain of reading them if they’re bad). Or are any of you planning to read any of these? Maybe we could do a buddy read!
